Steps to Fix Corrupted Files in Windows XP

This post describes how to Recover Corrupted Files in Windows XP operating system; Corrupted system files on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system can decrease your computer's performance or cause it to stop functioning properly. To fix corrupted files in Windows XP, run the Chkdsk command using the Command Prompt utility. The command scans all the files on the operating system, locates the corrupted ones and repairs them.

Steps to Fix Corrupted Files in Windows XP :-

  • Click "Start," then select "Run."
  • Type "cmd" in the "Open" box and press the "Enter" key. The Command Prompt window opens.
  • Type "chkdsk volume:/r" at the command prompt and press "Enter." The Chkdsk utility automatically scans the XP operating system for corrupted files and repairs them.
  • Press the "Y" key, then press "Enter," if prompted by the system, to schedule the Chkdsk utility. This warning appears only if the disk is in use when you want to run the utility.
  • Restart the computer. Chkdsk automatically starts and repairs the corrupted files.
